Diploastrea heliopora
Diploastrea heliopora
Colonies are massive, hemispherical with an even surface and may be up to 2m high and 5m across. Tentacles are extended only at night. Usually uniform cream or grey, sometimes greenish.
This is a monochrome picture of an Diploastrea helipora. Though it might look beautiful in white, in real life, when corals become bleached it means they’re dead. The bleaching phenomena it’s happening worldwide as you read this, due to the rise of oceans temperature and it’s acidification by pollution and the increase of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere. Spreading awareness is very empowering and it can lead to changes for the better and the preservation of our human environment, which is nature.
