Blue Peak

Blue Shark (Prionace glauca) has a slow reproductive rate, starting after 4 to 6 years of age, depending of the gender, and many are eaten or fished before reaching sexual maturity. The pregnancy lasts 9 to 12 months so Blue Sharks only reproduce every 2 or 3 years. In average the female gives birth to 25 to 50 baby sharks, depending on her size and age. These are some of the reasons why Blue Sharks are more vulnerable to overfishing and slower to recover from population declines.
